Specialized Knowledge At the time Napoleon Hill wrote Think and Grow Rich, there were many famous men who had little or no formal education.     Our view of education has changed dramatically; its considered a requirement for success.   Today, education and training will help open doors that might be closed to you if you have no formal training beyond high school.   Hill points out that education is only one way of acquiring the specialized knowledge you might need in your career; he provides an excellent list of  sources you have for acquiring it.   He says: “To a large extent your major purpose in life, the goal toward which you are working, will help determine what knowledge you need. With this question settled, your next move requires that you have accurate information concerning dependable sources of knowledge. The more important of these are: Ones own experience and education Experience and education available through cooperation of others (we’ll discuss that concept in later posts.) Colleges and Universities Public Libraries Special Training Courses   How many of these sources have you sought out in your career?  Our modern idea of education seems to place all the emphasis on formal classroom training, which means that people forget that education is a lifelong process   and  our own responsibility.   What have you learned today?   Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.
